MACS expands drop-in and on-call disability support to the Gold Coast

MACS is expanding its drop-in and on-call disability support service to the Gold Coast, giving more NDIS participants access to flexible support at home.

The service is designed for people who need short, task-based support at planned times, as well as non-emergency on-call support when something unexpected happens.

Services are available within approximately 30 minutes of Nerang.

MACS is aiming to support up to 30 new participants in the Gold Coast area, with services available within approximately 30 minutes of Nerang.

Flexible support when you need it

Drop-in and on-call support can help people live more independently, with support that fits around their routine rather than requiring long fixed shifts.

This may be suitable for people who want:

Overnight on-call support for non-emergency needs

Short, planned visits for specific daily tasks

More privacy, flexibility and control at home

Support that can work alongside existing providers

DROP-IN SUPPORT

Drop-in support means short, planned visits, usually 15–60 minutes, to help with specific tasks such as:

Night time disability care Brisbane

Personal Care

Transfers or repositioning

Meals or drinks

Medication assistance

Getting up or going to bed

Getting ready for work, study or appointments

2:1 support alongside a participant’s primary care team

Overnight pressure relief or prevention

ON-CALL SUPPORT

On-call support provides occasional, time-sensitive, unscheduled assistance when it is needed, mainly overnight between 6 pm and 6 am.

Night time disability care Brisbane

This could include non-emergency support needs such as:

Medication assistance

Bowel and bladder care

Repositioning

Equipment issues

Other overnight needs

Participants may not always receive support from the same worker, but MACS workers are trained in each person’s specific support needs.

MACS launching drop in and on-call support on the Gold Coast

This service may be suitable for people who:

  • are 18 years or older
  • are NDIS participants
  • have a physical disability
  • can direct support staff
  • live within the Gold Coast service area
  • have NDIS funding for assistance with daily activities
  • have needs that suit short, task-based drop-in or on-call support

Suitability will be assessed individually.

Can I use this with my current provider?

Yes. MACS can work alongside existing providers. Participants will need appropriate funding in their NDIS plan, usually under Core – Assistance with Daily Life.

About the evaluation

The Summer Foundation is supporting MACS to understand how this model works in practice, including participant outcomes, safety, reliability and value compared with more traditional support arrangements.

Taking part in the evaluation is optional. You can still use the MACS Gold Coast service even if you do not want to participate in the evaluation.

Participants who choose to take part in the evaluation may be asked to complete three 30–45 minute interviews over 12 months and will be paid for their time.
